are we easy targets, cause we're blind?

I've just had an experience with someone who has nothing better to do, than complain, and was just wondering, if you guys think, that some sighted people think that we're easy targets, cause we're blind? The thing was, that this person is complaining about my dogs barking until 1 a,m in the morning, and I kno for a fact! that they're not doing that. I'm awake at that time, and the dogs are usually asleep, either on the floor at my feet, or on my bed. Has anyone else had a similar experience?

I have, when I had my guide dog, my neighbors would complain that my dog was barking all the time. And I damn right out knew that she would only bark when the door was knocked on or when I told her too. I am lucky that the management knew and trusted me.

That's the only time my dogs bark to...when someone is at the door, or out the front of the house. They stop when I or my parents tell them to, but never! at 1 in the morning. The other thing is, that my neighbours next to me and across the road, said that they haven't herd them doing it.

I went to a residential school for the blind. I was away at school, when our neighbors complained that my ham radio equipment was interfering with the TV. As I think about the question raised in this post, I'm wondering if maybe because as people who are blind, we're a smaller portion of the population, and any behavioral differences are magnified in sighted people's minds.

I'm sorry to say this but wow! You are really self-centered if you think people complain about things that are essentially your fault because of your blindness. That's rediculous to say the least! A barking dog at night is very annoying whether you're blind or sighted. lol It's obvious. And as for the person with the hand radio, it could be interfering with your neighbor's tv. It doesn't matter if you are blind/sighted, by not considering them too, you are the one with the problem. Some blind people are too uptight with the fact that they're blind. So if a person didn't want to talk to you because they didn't like your personality, you would probably assume that it was because you are blind and call them out for discriminating when it wasn't the reason for it at all. It's no wonder us blindies are viewed in such a bad light!

I think in my opinion we are easy targets, they seem to not understand some of us are blind or VI and can't see well or at all and use a cane to get around.

Well I was on a bus on several occasions and I'd use my cane to find a seat well I hit these people feet with my cane and they grab the cane and tell me. Find a seat and sit your ass down and quit hitting my foot.

LOL Some people can be total pricks towards the blind community but it's something that I can live with. I got more stories of this stuff but I don't feel like writing anymore on this subject for now.

Excuse me! I! am! not! self sentered! or selfish for that matter. If you had have read post 3, I said that my dogs are not! barking, and that my nearest! neighbours haven't! herd them doing it! Don't judge me by this post...oh wait, fucking snap judgements are made around here all the time! I was just asking a simple questian, no need to be a bitch about it.

honestly, we're all likely to be targets weather blind or sighted. just like everyone falls down sometimes, we get right back up, and life goes on. if people aren't comfortable with their blindness, situations such as this are taken out of proportion.

Exactly Chelsea. I'm very! comfortable with my blindness, and myself in general for that matter. I've fallen down and gotten right back up in ways, nobody will ever understand...or I care to say. The main reason I posted this was to ask a simple questian, cause like it or not, we're all targets of something. Plus, I didn't think it's fare of my dogs to be accused of something that they're not doing.

Okay Meshell as much as I like you you've missed the boat here.
I do think people tend to think they can get away with complaints, untruths, and outright lies due to a persons blindness. You see it's that they feel because they can see and we can't that they will be believed over us. Now in the case of barking dogs, yes stupid as it is, they think that a blind person might not know there dog is barking because they can't see it. I'll give another example. You go to the store and pick up an item and that product is spoiled. You know it's not right because of feel, smel and other things, but the clerk claims nothings wrong with it. You can see, so you can't know the product is spoiled. It comes donw to blindness being a mental condition as well as a physical condition to people that want to blame.
I wouldn't call it an easy target, but, you know We can't see, so we can't know things. *smile*

I think there are folks who are crafty and manipulative who want power or attention or to just get their way and they make us a target of complaint because it'll all come down to their word against ours and they know they'll be easier to believe because they can see. A lot of people think blind people are not to be believed because how can we be aware of anything if we can't see? Yeah, it's silly, but society is mostly full of silly ideas. Hehehehehe!

It's like a comedian once said, (not in these exact words, but close enough), "if people can't look at us and keep their lunch down, that's their problem." Well, actually, that might not apply here, but I guess we are targets. People should just keep their noses out of where they don't belong, and lay off. We're a lot more aware of our surroundings than they seem to think we are.

lol I'm sorry if I offended anyone on here but it's really just my oppinion. I just don't think of myself as a target for sighted people. I guess I haven't had many negative experiences with sighties and love the fact that I seem "normal" when with them. Sure I've had blindy problems but nothing extreme to complain about. I really think it's the people themselves who treat you differently; not the fact that they're sighted and you're blind. lol Did anyone get my drift? Also, I believe that if you yourself feel inferior then you are more likely to think of others as acting superior towards you. lol So I try very hard to be me and not care about what others may think of me. Notice I said "try."

Yay Michelle! I'm glad you beat me to it and get to be the bitch for this particular topic. Hehehehe.
But seriously, everything she said, is what I would've said, so I won't bother repeating it.
